mermaids, jaguars and the hummingbird

I don't post much of my creative work for copyright reasons but here's something!

These fingers roll into knuckles,
And the humming bird pierces my ear,
They surround me like mermaids
Singing a tune I longed to hear:
Triangular.

Tears and fireworks and sorrys and maybes
confessions and stories that shuddered like crazy,
It went against their odor
Too sharp against the curve of their toes.

Still I stand inside
tongue twisting against itself,
Eyes shallow and burning,
fingernails rubbing against my palms
MISTAKE
And still they stand before me:
These three Jaguars
paws mowing, scoring
reaching for me

Whilst Commitment starves,
nestled deep inside the hummingbird's intestines.

Poem: Disappointment

You clasp your hands and wish so hard and pray
Five times a day
That I’ll be a carbon copy
Identical
With no identity
To the selfless girl with the white face,
The obedient wife, the obedient daughter, the obedient slave of God
A ‘white heart’ you said, you’d wished I’d have
But my foot went left, and you chew
Chew,chew, chew at my mind
My big, big muscle, churning in your words and fumes
A carbon copy you wished. But my hopes and dreams stepped to the left.

 Every single time.

Poem: Autumn, Winter

A poem I wrote a while ago about the transition from Autumn to winter. I'm hoping to post more poetry so watch this space ;)

Enjoy!
~

Autumn has become translucent.
Winter presses its fingers onto the remaining fragments,
Condensing onto the clouds like her wet nose does on my glass.
Auburn leaves turn brown,
Their golden edges melt into the mud and their stems freeze,
My breath dances towards the clouds
Joining their mighty surround, dispersing at the sun’s command,
The trees are scraped bare by the sharp wind

Like a razor, the leaves cascade as blood.

Poem: A Taste Of Lebanon

The sun and the street cars speak the same language here,
Non-stop blaring throughout the day
Kids running around; on streets, on roads, exploding fireworks;
There is no difference
There are no limits in Lebanon,
The beauty of this country has no limits
The  purple and orange sky in fajr
And the moon at night looks more magnificent than I've ever seen,
The breathtaking mountains of 3asoon and Za7le,
The clear beach in Mina, znood essit,
The people
Who have been through so much for this country yet their forgiving smile crinkles with pride,
The smell of m3assal is perfection,
No other country knows how to make a perfect argilé like here;

The men sit on tables in cafes till dawn,
Playing card games, drinking rustic arabic coffee in tiny cups and
ring-smoking argilé,

Nostalgic smells and tastes fire at me,
I feel at home here yet
My long absences make me a stranger,
My tongue doesn't move as fast and
My accent isn't as deep
But it's all heart-felt.

Lebanon is a big part of me.

Podosphaera Pannosa

She can take me whenever She wishes,
As I sip my afternoon mint tea -
Her kiss can come, as cold as stone
Leaving the unsweetened water for the fat flies,

When I was lying next to him in bed, my silk petals burning,
She visited him instead; touched his wrists
Then drifting away as silent as the desert wind,
Leaving me with his bleeding mouth and stunted hum,

She can take me

As I am frantically pulling at my prickled veil, when my gold rattles,
When my back is bent bitterly like green plums; expecting Her
To float in and stroke my shivering Bedouin lips
with Her silver fingers, whispering “come with me”.

But She hovers near my closed eyes; bearing a smile as wide as the frowning moon.
I grow towards the shadows and whisper through the thickly scented air,
‘My door is open, my robes untied
awaiting Your opal mouth, Your hooked nose

My square soul is trapped in your airless false-pretences;
The woman with the green mouth, and the one with the crooked spine.
I am trapped between life and Your abandonment,
And I am still waiting

I am waiting for your touch,
To rid me from this infected fairytale, this blight. (Podosphaera pannosa)’

First post: Gossiping with N

This is a poem I wrote a year ago when I was in college, me and my friend who is also a poet decided to sit on a computer and write a poem about one another on the spot, I wrote mine in like 5 minutes, and had to wait until the next day for her to 'perfect' hers. This is not a proper, structured poem, it's humorous banter. The reason I chose to use this poem in my first post is because it signifies some beginnings in my life. Hope you enjoy :)

She sits in front of me, eyes wide and wondering
Fingers clenching. Unclenching.
A soulful smile, twitching nose,
Cheeks full of colour.
She echoes beauty as she
Reminisces love,
Reminisces loss,
While I speak of devils,
She closes my words,
Envelopes them with a disappointed smile;
Eyebrows rising.
She laughs heartily.
I tell her of my thoughtless poetry,
She tells me of her failure to plan life ahead.
We discuss Indie;
Scorn Lana’s lips which we thought too artificial,
We imitate her affecting voice,
Adding higher notes, more words
Like my bedroom wall.
